total block
last entry was crap, i just posted it because i was tired of messing with it
it always seems so clear in your manic thoughts
but monotone, dilute, muted, with no dimension when you smear it on blank paper
i needed a new medium
and mom had charcoal...

my box
feet planted and eyes locked in a silent standoff
a fresh coat of gritty stubbornness
to mask the fear and suspicion
protectively, I clutch it to my middle with both hands
.....
as my fingertips reluctantly ease the lid open
my secrets scurry from the light
like roaches to dark corners
'n-no, you definitely can't..hold it'
(are you insane?
I'd rather run naked through the Capitol building)

Old Salem
Bridge into Old Salem
The boys' school at that time used the construction of these stars to teach kids geometry.
Light and shadow. Features and flaws. Headlines and secrets. I wish I had Rupita's skillz. Things are more clearly seen when accompanied by their shadows.
Stretch the interpretation ---> you can't really see a person, until you glimpse their shadows.
So many textures: brick and stone and window shutters and doorways and trees...
locally known as 'the castle'
I really loved this vine with it's shadows, i wanna paint it
especially this view...
original African-American church in Old Salem
they later moved to this brick church
see the headstone to the left of the church?
the yard in front of the church was actually a black-only graveyard, separated into Moravian, non-Moravian, and kids
the white church
the white church also has its own graveyard called 'God's Acre'
a woman working there told me all the headstones were identical, representing equality in death
I thought, yeah except if you're black, but whatever...
enough about the church
on to medical stuff...
This is Dr. Vierling's house, the area's physician
an apothecary downstairs
upstairs...
...i found a treasure of medical history
Bloodletting...
brain surgery!?
old textbooks...
a Martin Luther bible??
tools
this is a leech cage! gross...
doctor bag
and last but not least, some women's health
this is a how-to diagram of breast surgery, yikes!
this guy found it 'unbecoming' for women to gather and be excited about having a baby
i hope someone told him 'oh, shutup'
forceps used to pull out a stubborn baby (oddly, they look a lot like today's forceps)
and an old fashioned bottle
old-fashioned breast pump (and I thought breast pumps were relatively new!)
The End.
